Dr Vasili Karas Is Appointed to the ExplORer Surgical Advisory Board

Dr Vasili Karas, MD, MS, an orthopedic surgeon at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush, has officially joined the company’s Clinical Advisory Board, alongside Dr. Hemal Gada, MD, MBA of UPMC Pinnacle.

Because Dr. Vasil Karas has extensive experience in rapid recovery orthopedic surgery, it provides ExplORer Surgical and its executive team a valuable resource to help bridge the gap between the company’s platform and its surgical team users.
Dr. Vasil Karas is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in rapid recovery hip and knee replacement and complex reconstruction surgery. He earned his medical degree at Rush University’s Medical College in Chicago. After completing his residency at Duke University Medical Center in North Carolina, he returned to Rush in Chicago to finish his fellowship training in hip and knee replacement surgery. He has over 40 peer-reviewed publications and is a committee member of the American Academy of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS).
Dr. Vasil Karas first became familiar with  ExplORer’s workflow platform when he implemented the technology at Rush to assist with total knee and total hip procedures, evaluating its effectiveness after each procedure. Over the course of eight months, Dr. Karas and his team improved confidence in their procedures and reduced challenges stemming from unexpected procedural occurrences, surgeon preferences for instrumentation and room setup, and patient positioning, giving the technology a 9.1/10 score. The team also noted a 30 percent increase in comfort supporting Dr. Karas, and Dr. Karas noted an 80 percent decrease in instrumentation and room setup challenges. As a result of its effectiveness, ExplORer’s technology is now a fully adapted technology within Dr. Karas’ practice.
“ExplORer is a game-changer in surgical efficiency, which I can confidently say after using it for months in my own OR. Surgeons everywhere can leverage this tool in a post-COVID world now focused more on the remote provision of care,” said Dr Vasil Karas. “I am excited to join ExplORer Surgical’s Advisory Board to aid in the company’s growth, bringing this technology to surgeons across the globe and helping them maintain positive patient outcomes. In addition, my partnership as a virtual proctor and trainer with ExplORer for robotic total joint procedures will be extremely important as robotics use continues to grow.”
ExplORer provides meaningful value to an organization’s functions and the surgical teams they work with, including sales, training, medical affairs, marketing, and research and development.
