Martin Bonick Named President & CEO of Ardent Health Services

Martin Bonick has been named President and Chief Executive Officer of Ardent Health, effective August 17, 2020.

Bonick has nearly 25 years of leadership experience in the healthcare sector, including for-profit, non-profit, public, and private companies.

As previously announced, David T. Vandewater, Ardent’s long-tenured President, and CEO, has retired from the company. Ardent Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Paul Kappelman is serving as Interim President and CEO until Bonick joins the company.

“Marty’s deep experience in hospital and clinic operations drives his approach to partnering with medical staff and fostering a culture of patient-centric transparency and teamwork,” said Mark Sotir, Chairman of Ardent’s Board of Directors. “He is a proven leader with a strong track record of driving high-quality patient care, optimizing operations and growing healthcare organizations. We are very pleased to welcome him.”

Prior to joining Ardent, Bonick was CEO of PhyMed Healthcare Group, a national provider of anesthesia and pain management services. During his time at PhyMed, Marty was instrumental in driving substantial growth organically and through acquisitions. Prior to PhyMed, he served as a Division President at Community Health Systems where he led operations of 36 hospitals and associated clinics and outpatient centers across six states. Previously, he was Senior Vice President of Operations at Jewish Hospital & St. Mary’s Health System; President and CEO of Jewish Hospital; CEO of Oklahoma State University Medical Center; and VP of Operations at Hillcrest Medical Center, which is owned by Ardent. He holds a Master of Health Administration degree and a Master of Information Management degree from Washington University in St. Louis, and a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

“I have long admired Ardent Health Services for its consistent focus on quality, service, culture, and innovative partnerships, which has resulted in significant growth,” said Bonick. “Now more than ever, I believe these fundamentals are important as healthcare providers embrace today’s challenges and develop new ways to deliver care. I am honored to rejoin the company at this important time and look forward to partnering with employees, medical staff, and the board to build on Ardent’s strong foundation.”
