SR Instruments, a leading manufacturer of purpose-built scales for hospitals, medical facilities, and long-term care centers, announced today that its flagship product line, SR Scales, will now come standard with Microban SilverShield® embedded antimicrobial technology.
The company reports that SR Scales infused with Microban technology feature added protection against the growth of bacteria and the technology will be included in all SR medical stand-on, wheelchair, and wall mount scales at no additional cost. Surface areas that contain the antimicrobial protection include the platform, handrails, stanchions, display housing, keypad, and visible labeling.
Microban protection begins to work as soon as a micro-organism comes into contact with the product surface. The technology then works continuously to maintain a consistently lower bio-burden than would be expected on a product without Microban protection.
Medical professionals working in a variety of areas such as in infection control, biomedical engineering, acute care, and strategic sourcing can now utilize a wide range of SR Scales with antimicrobial protection throughout their facilities. SR Scales infused with Microban do not replace existing cleaning practices at medical facilities, but rather complement existing cleaning protocols.
“We are very excited to be working with Microban International,” said John Eberle, manufacturing manager at SR Instruments. “Scales are typically deployed throughout a hospital, moved quite often, and weigh numerous patients on a daily basis. We felt that adding Microban antimicrobial protection to our scales was a proactive approach to help our customers.”
Dr. Burke Nelson, director of materials engineering at Microban said, “The inclusion of Microban technology on the surface of scales used in medical facilities is an ideal application of embedded antimicrobial technology. We are excited to partner with SR Scales in this exclusive endeavor that, as a part of a systems approach to maintaining cleaner products within the healthcare environment, ultimately benefits both patients and employees.”
SR Instruments will be showcasing a number of its scales at this week’s AHCA/NCAL Conference, October 16-17, 2017 in Las Vegas, NV, booth 238.
