Vizient Inc. applauds the U.S. Senate for advancing bipartisan legislation to continue and expand federal support for pediatric medical education. The Vizient-endorsed legislation, The Dr. Benjy Frances Brooks Children’s Hospital GME Support Reauthorization Act (H.R. 5385), will extend the Children’s Hospital Graduate Medical Education (CHGME) Program for five years and increased the amount of funding available through the program.
The CHGME program offers essential Federal resources to train the next generation of pediatric medical professionals in children’s hospitals across the country. The 5-year extension of the program and increase in funds shows the bipartisan commitment of Congress to support medical education for clinicians specializing in treating children. Investing in a highly skilled and specialized pediatric medical workforce will help to address the ongoing physician workforce shortage, and ensure well-trained physicians will be available to provide first-rate care for children seeking treatment.
Vizient applauds both the House and Senate for approving the legislation and looks forward to the President signing it into law. A strong advocate for pediatric hospitals, Vizient has served as the exclusive supply chain partner for the Children’s Hospital Association since 2012.
