Dr. Erica Bisson Joins Proprio As Research Advisor

Proprio, the Seattle medical technology company enabling surgeons to perform complex procedures through the combination of computer vision, machine learning, and immersive technology, is pleased to announce that Dr. Erica Bisson, MD, MPH has joined as a Research Advisor.

Dr. Erica Bisson, Professor of Neurosurgery and Adjunct Professor of Orthopedics within the University of Utah’s Spine Division in their Department of Neurosurgery, specializes in complex spinal surgeries, and has an extensive background in treating degenerative spinal conditions, spine trauma, and spine injuries.

About Dr. Erica Bisson 
Dr. Erica Bisson is Professor of Neurosurgery, as well as Adjunct Professor of Orthopaedics, at the University of Utah. She received her medical school training at Tufts University School of Medicine and her Neurosurgical training at the University of Vermont. She then went on to complete a fellowship in complex spinal disorders at the University of Utah, under the direction of Dr. Ronald Apfelbaum. She joined the Spine Division in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Utah in 2009. Within the department, she serves as the Director of the CAST approved Neurosurgical Spine Fellowship and as the Vice Chair for Diversity and Inclusion.
Dr. Bisson is a fellow of the American Board of Neurological Surgeons, and a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Spine Section. She has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles and serves as principal investigator on several national and international multicenter trials. She continues to work collaboratively on research with faculty in Neuroradiology and Exercise and Sports Medicine at the University of Utah as well as Neurosurgery Spine faculty at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Additionally, she serves in many leadership roles in national neurosurgical organizations, including being a member of the Editorial Board for the Journal of Neurosurgery and serving as the Scientific Program Chair for the AANS/CNS Joint Section on Spine and Peripheral Nerves. Most recently, Dr. Bisson was also elected to a 2 year term as the President of the University of Utah Medical Board.
Dr. Bisson specializes in complex spine surgery with a focus on cervical disease (neck pain), utilizing both novel artificial disc and fusion technology. She also treats patients with spinal cord injury, spine trauma, and degenerative spinal conditions (neck and back pain). Dr. Bisson’s professional interests include occipitocervical disease, cervical degenerative disorders, advanced spinal fusion techniques, and image-guided surgery.
