American College of Radiology Association Announces Scope of Practice Fund Recipients

Four state radiological societies have been awarded grants from the American College of Radiology Association® (ACRA®) Scope of Practice (SOP) Fund. Societies receiving initial funds are Kansas, New York, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

The SOP fund was established in 2021 by the ACRA to safeguard patients and patient access to radiologist expertise by fighting state and federal non-physician SOP expansion legislation. Non-physician provider groups continually seek expanded authority by introducing legislation that would, for example, reduce radiologist oversight and enable direct billing.

“Our state radiological societies continue to be on the front lines of dangerous scope of practice expansion efforts that would threaten patient safety and erode access to high quality radiological care,” said Howard B. Fleishon, MD, MMM, FACR, Chair of the American College of Radiology® (ACR®) Board of Chancellors. “The ACRA is committed to helping these state radiological societies as they work to educate lawmakers about the importance of radiologists and radiologist-led teams, and the SOP fund is one tool that can assist with their efforts.”
