The research indicates that fine particulate matter in the air may contribute to diffuse myocardial fibrosis, a form of scarring in the heart muscle that can precede heart failure.
The consensus document was jointly published today in Radiology: Cardiothoracic Imaging, a journal of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), Journal of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography and Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

“Among the safe, minimally invasive colorectal cancer screening options, CT colonography is more effective at preventing and detecting cancer—and is also more cost-effective—than stool DNA testing,” Dr. Pickhardt said. “Furthermore, CT colonography can provide for extracolonic screening for things like osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease.”
