Jason Tan, RN succeeds David Seligman, who had led the hospital since 2019 and is taking on the role of deputy regional executive director for Northwell Health’s western region.

Jason Tan has held different leadership roles during his seven-year tenure at LIJ Valley Stream. For the past two years he has served as deputy executive director for the hospital. Prior to that, he was the associate executive director of quality management and associate executive director of operations.

In addition, Mr. Tan played an integral part in the hospital’s transition into a premier destination for acute care. He has also been a key team member overseeing the hospital’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic that began in 2020.

Mr. Tan became a registered nurse in 2006. He started his Northwell career as a critical care fellow in the cardiothoracic intensive care unit at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park. He was promoted to nurse manager and would go on to a leadership role managing quality for the cardiology department.

“Jason Tan has the experience, demeanor and dedication needed to lead LIJ Valley Stream through this next phase of advancement and growth,” said Mr. Seligman. “With his extensive clinical and administrative knowledge, he has provided leadership to nearly every aspect of the hospital. I am confident that Jason will set a vision and strategy well suited to support the healthcare needs of residents in southern Nassau County and southeastern Queens.”

Mr. Tan earned his bachelor’s degree from Stony Brook University, his nursing degree from Molloy College, his master’s degree in business administration and quality management from Hofstra University and a master’s degree of health care delivery science from Dartmouth College. He is also a graduate of Northwell’s High Potential leader development program.

“I’ve been fortunate to work at LIJ Valley Stream for seven years and during that time I’ve witnessed the hospital’s transformation into a center of excellence for multiple health care disciplines,” said Tan. “We have elevated the level of patient care and the patient experience for our community, which is as diverse as the hospital itself. I look forward to continuing to build on the achievements we’ve made and I’m excited for what we will create in the future.”

Mr. Tan lives on Long Island with his wife and three children.
