Medtronic plc (NYSE:MDT), the global leader in medical technology, today announced the groundbreaking of a new campus in Lafayette, Colorado. Scheduled to begin in June 2021, the new campus will unite employees from the Boulder and Louisville facilities onto one campus. Medtronic’s manufacturing operations currently at the Boulder and Louisville campuses will remain there.

“Medtronic medical technology developed and manufactured in Colorado transforms patient care globally, and we anticipate continued innovation at our new Lafayette campus,” said Geoff Martha, Medtronic chairman and chief executive officer. “We look forward to coming together at a single campus to bolster our presence in Colorado and position Medtronic for growth. In addition, we are investing in this innovation center and new campus to attract and retain technology talent in this tech-rich region of Colorado.”

“We’re thrilled with Medtronic’s investment in Colorado,” said Governor Jared Polis. “This new campus will allow for good jobs, innovation, and employee wellness, all of which are critical to powering the Colorado Comeback.”

Developed in partnership with Ryan Companies US, Inc. — a national developer, designer, builder, and property manager offering full-service commercial real estate solutions — the Lafayette campus will span 42 acres with 23 developable acres. Anticipated to be complete with employees moving in during the second half of 2022, the plan includes 400,000 square feet in two five-story connected buildings, which will host 1,100 employees. Once settled at our new Colorado campus, we will continue to collaborate with each other, our customers, and our partners to develop and produce innovative technologies backed by science,” said Martha.

Medtronic is committed to providing a sustainable, comfortable, healthy, and productive workplace that complements the surrounding natural environment. The building designs feature reduced water and irrigation use, solar parking canopies, electric vehicle charging stations, pollinator gardens, energy efficient building systems, occupancy sensors, and LED lighting. To help ensure employee safety, the site will be equipped with state-of-the-art ventilation, filtration, and air distribution systems capable of 100 percent outside air economizing to bring in outdoor air, and fully automated and programmable air handles.
