Regalbulto is a mountaintop town bathed in the warmth and serenity of the sun. Its inhabitants exude warmth and friendliness, extending love to visitors. This marked my second visit to the venerable town, the ancestral home of my grandparents and relatives.
Many residents of Regabulto, primarily the elders, gather outside the restaurants and bars, engaging in lively conversations with one another, reading their newspapers, and savoring their espressos.
My family comprised both the Di Benedetto and Granuzzo families; while the Di Benedettos can still be located, the Granuzzos have regrettably moved away.
I had the opportunity to visit my grandfather’s home, boarded up.
Upon the emergence of poverty in this divinely crafted town (early 1900’s), my grandparents relocated to the United States. Numerous individuals did the same and migrated to Australia, Argentina, and Brazil. Presently, young adults are departing to pursue higher education in Italy, subsequently securing employment in Northern Italy, France, Germany, and the United States. Very few return.
Today, a significant number of Americans with Sicilian heritage feel a profound calling to explore their ancestral roots, which not only aids them in gaining a deeper understanding of their own identities but also provides valuable insights into the lives of their forebears and the contemporary experiences of those living in Sicily.
There are many places to stay when visiting Sicily. They include posh hotels, boutique hotels, bed and breakfast and apartments.
Situated in the rural landscape of Regalbuto, Sicily, lies the exquisite and delightful Sicilian countryside hotel named Rocca Dei Saraceni. This marked my second stay at Rocca Dei Saraceni. Upon arrival at the entrance gates, the courteous staff welcomes you with a warm smile and inquires about your travels.
You are personally escorted to your room, which will undoubtedly delight you. The picturesque countryside view will leave you speechless, while the tranquil and sophisticated decor is sure to bring you immense pleasure throughout your stay.
In Sicily, the exquisite cuisine, deeply rooted in a mix of Greek, Roman, and Arab traditions, sets it apart. Among the hotels, Rocca Dei Saraceni shines brightly, with its standout feature being the exceptional culinary offerings.
Meet Chef Fabrizio Occhiena, a young and handsome culinary artist renowned for his innovative approach to crafting Sicilian delicacies. I was told that his career started in his late teens. Having led the kitchen at renowned restaurants worldwide, he absorbed novel culinary methods.
His expertise is unmistakable. The plating of the diverse dishes presented to me was not just visually stunning, but so meticulously arranged that it leaves one in awe of his skill! By my standards and to those I have spoken with, this Chef and restaurant deserve a Michelin star(s).
Whether you are enjoying breakfast or lunch at this delicious hotel, you will not be disappointed. The servers are friendly and go out of the way to make sure you have a pleasant experience.
Conclusion:
Regabulto should undoubtedly be on your travel itinerary when exploring the captivating island of Sicily. The charm and authenticity of Regabulo will draw you in, and staying at Rocca Dei Saraceni will elevate your experience to new heights.
